Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery

I have decided to make my own programs, menus, escort cards, table cards and place settings. I found these programs from another wedding that I just love. I have been messing around in Microsoft Word and can make something pretty similar, although I think I am going to have to ask Mr. Marshmallow to help me with the order of the program pages (he is really good at stuff like that). Although the version in the pictures are handmade, I found the fonts online and it looks great. I would use a light blue or light sea green color instead of the yellow these use here.

To top it all off

Recently, I have seen several wedding blogs featuring "unique" wedding cake toppers. Mr Marshmallow and I have not decided if we are going to have a topper yet, but I think we are leaning towards not having one. Here are some that I have come across. What do you think, is a wedding cake topper is necessary?

Mr. Marshmallow found these cute toppers actually made of marshmallows. These are pretty cute.

If you are going to San Francisco (be sure to wear some flowers in your hair)

Recently I've seen several pictures of brides with fabric flowers in their hair and I really like the look. This would really go with my dress and the outdoor feel of the wedding. Several vendors on Etsy make simple custom fabric flower hair pieces that are not that expensive. If I wore a flower, should still wear dangling earrings or would that be too much?

Details People!

Today's blog is more of a venting session. Some days it seems like we have the entire wedding planned and Mr. Marshmallow and I could get married tomorrow. Some days, like today it seems like there is so much to do, where do you start.

Some thoughts running through my head today are
-What is the cake going to sit on
-When are we going to pick out the cake
-When do we need to send invitations; how much is postage
-Should I get address labels made
-Is there enough on our wedding registry for gifts
-Where are we going for our Honeymoon
-Here is the rehearsal dinner going to be
- What are we going to do for table seating
-When am i going to make the table seating
- What undergarments do i need for my dress
- What kind of bustle do i want on my dress
- Do I need to get a facial or schedule regular facials
-What am I going to wear for my engagement photos; should i get my makeup done

It all seems so petty when you write it out but when it's running through your head it drives you nuts! Maybe I will go for a run and try to clear my head...

Let them eat cake!

One of the traditions Mr. Marshmallow and I would like to keep is cutting the cake. Apparently, the tradition has been around since medieval times however they used swords instead of cake knives. Mr. Marshmallow if you are reading this, you cannot use a sword to cut our cake.

The tradition has taken on a new meaning in modern times and represents the first act as husband and wife and the beginning of a new family together. Plus, everyone loves cake! I was thinking something simple like this would be perfect for us (but maybe in white or with our wedding colors):

The Sweetest Thing

How sweet is this bouquet.? I saw this today and loved the fresh garden flowers and intricate bouquet wrap. The wrap is french silk twisted with square vintage buttons. I think this would be a perfect detail to add to my own bouquet. In fact, maybe I'll just copy the whole thing!

Suit Up!

"Suit Up!"
-Barney Stinson, How I Met Your Mother

While watching one of our favorite shows last night, How I Met Your Mother (The one where Ted almost gets married, Season 4 Episode 4 to be exact), I came across a great tux. It is timeless, yet dressy, and I think it would look great on Mr. Marshmallow. What do you think?

Grapes of Wrath

Being that our venue is a winery it only serves wine and beer. Being that it is a good winery we have some great wines to drink at our wedding. I know not everyone likes to drink wine so I thought maybe having a refreshing sangria might get the night off to a great start. I found this recipe and our caterer offered to make it for us to serve. Yummy!

Rose Sangria
1 bottle of rose wine (750 ml)
1/4 cup brandy
1/4 cup triple sec
1 cup fresh orange juice
1/4 simple syrup
orange slices
lemon slices
lime slices
apple slices
blackberries
Combine all the ingredients in a large pitcher, cover and refrigerate for at least 8 hours or up to 24 hours.
Strain fruit before serving and add in fresh slices to decorate.

The Art of a Good Marriage

I love this poem. I think it says it all. Mr. Marshmallow and I are going to try to incorporate this somehow into our ceremony. Do you agree with each of lines or is there one you do not agree with?

The Art Of A Good Marriage

Wilferd Arlan Peterson

Happiness in marriage is not something that just happens.

A good marriage must be created.

In marriage the little things are the big things.

It is never being too old to hold hands.

It is remembering to say "I love you" at least once a day.

It is never going to sleep angry.

It is at no time taking the other for granted;

the courtship should not end with the honeymoon,

it should continue through all the years.

It is having a mutual sense of values and common objectives. It is standing together facing the world.

It is forming a circle of love that gathers in the whole family.

It is doing things for each other,

not in the attitude of duty or sacrifice, but in the spirit of joy.

It is speaking words of appreciation and demonstrating gratitude in thoughtful ways.

It is not looking for perfection in each other.

It is cultivating flexibility, patience, understanding and a sense of humour.

It is having the capacity to forgive and forget.

It is giving each other an atmosphere in which each can grow.

It is a common search for the good and the beautiful.

It is establishing a relationship in which the independence is equal, dependence is mutual and the obligation is reciprocal.

It is not only marrying the right partner, it is being the right partner.

A little about our wedding venue...

Well, I have to say finding a wedding venue and setting a date has been the hardest part of the whole planning process. We wanted something that meant something to us and our relationship together as well as accessible for all our families. I searched the Internet for weeks on end and when we came to Testarossa Vineyards we knew that this was the spot. Testarossa is located in Los Gatos, California. When we come to Los Gatos, we stay in a cozy 1950's home that has been in Mr. Marshmellow's family for a few generations now. This is often our time to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life and enjoy the surrounding hiking trails and charming downtown shops and restaurants.

The winery was originally built in 1888 by Northern Italian Jesuit Fathers and Brothers from the college at Mission Santa Clara as a means to fund their new seminary college built on the grounds the same year. They also produced a majority of the states Church altar wine (even during prohibition!http://www.testarossa.com/). It also happens to be located about a five minute walk from the Los Gatos house. It was meant to be. When we visited the site it had everything; friendly staff, an outdoor ceremony site, great wine, parking (yes this is important!) and tons of great photo ops. I hope you enjoy Testarossa (And the wine) as much as we do!

If You Could Do It All Over Again...

...what would you do differently? This question is for my married readers. Or I guess also for those in the wedding planning process who have already learned some lessons the hard way!

Looking back, what would you change? Would you have spent so much money on your flowers?Would you have splurged on a better photographer?

Wordle

I found this link the other day and I immediately wasted 45 minutes creating new images. Now if only I can figure out how to use this for a wedding invitation or program...

Our photographer, Jen Good, photographed this wedding last year and I love everything about it.

You can see more pictures on Jen's website as well. I can't wait for our engagment picture session on March 15th!

Collecting Jars

I just love the laid back feel these jars give to such a formal event! I am hoping to incorporate these into our ceremony somehow.

The "Do Not Play" List
